My kids enjoyed each other. Here's one of my favorite photos. I see that it needs some repair work...I must have carried it around a bit... Left to right - Dave, Doug and Diane.... (I see that I have posted this one earlier...please forgive...they are so cute...and were good buddies too...)
Not sure where this one was taken, but here are Dave and Diane...with color-coordinated clothes!
Kinda blurry...but here's Doug with a G.I.Joe and pounding bench, and Diane with a new Raggedy Ann doll she got for Christmas. We were at my folks' house in Cedar Rapids. That table behind Diane was solid walnut and it was a 'gate-leg' table. A lady in Sabula, Iowa that we went to visit when I was in grade school had it in her basement, and it had become quite warped. That lady gave the table to my folks, and my dad soaked and weighted the top leaves so that they were once again flat and smooth. Then he finished it with some rubbing oil, and it looked really beautiful. I think if we had room to open the table completely out, there was room for about 12 to 16 people to sit around it. The table was in our dining room on 17th Street in Cedar Rapids, and then was in the house in Toledo. After that, it was in the living room on Mound Avenue in Cedar Rapids where this photo was taken. It went to my mother's apartment on Dalewood Avenue after my father died. She made the mistake of hiring someone to refinish the top of the table, and the guy put shiny polyurethane on the top which really almost destroyed its beauty. She finally sold it for about $400.00. She had offered it to me, but at that time I already had a table that I had made, and no room for this table. I'm still sorry that I didn't take it... it had so much history...
I forgot I had this one...here is Diane holding our new baby, Dave, with Doug playing with a 'bendy' toy...
Here they are again...my three sweet kids, sitting together for this photo. Where did all the time go? It just slips away, and soon you are old, and so very thankful for the pictures that remind you of just how lucky you have been to enjoy all those days...including the hard ones.
More to come...more Christmases, more family reunions...just more of life...going on....
